May as well start off by showing what I've done so far that's given me the confidence I can sell this, eh?
I have a few temp assets that are really nice but don't quite fit what I want to do, as well as around 600 lines of code for moving around and hugging walls.
and there he goes.
Now you've seen everything. But I need to fill space so I'll tell you more about the project.
I'll be making this game with Game Maker v2.something and this gif - that I kindly and professionally left the mouse in frame for - that you see is the result of about a month and a half's work by me. I'm still learning so obviously I've been bothering people to help bugfix in their spare time and the assets are all purchased from other places. but I'm the one that slapped them together into what you'd call a "hu-man".
The story I've concocted is as follows: you are a new superhero in a big city with fairly generic powers of "punch things hard run real fast" and barely do you get in before you're involved in a giant battle that rampages across a few blocks (as you do). You are injured and taken to a hospital to recover. While staying there you begin to realise it's less of a hospital and more of a jail, and make plans to escape. Your cellmate before he's taken away explains the hospital's secret that is the "Reconditioning Procedure" to weaken your powers. He also tells you about the powerful inmates called "Wardens" that have made deals with the facility to guard the keys to the exit.
On your way you find control panels that are capable of shifting around the facility's layout and inhibitor beacons locked behind layers of security that when destroyed weaken the grid and lift a bit of that oppressive force on you though it also empowers other supers likewise trapped with you; though oddly it doesn't affect the Wardens.
Things that still need to be done are to add combat interactions and flesh out the movement system. This is mostly dependent on if I can get good (and cheap) fitting temp assets to code with. I also need to start working on the map's design, most likely going with the metroid maze route in segments that can be moved around whilst staying together, such as the challenges that lead up to the boss areas. I may open a patreon at some point to fund commissions for things I cannot make myself.
One thing I look forward to struggling with is making the combat momentum based so keeping on the go is not only a good idea, but increases the damage you deal to enemies if you can keep a flow going.
